A multifaceted performer, Gary plays guitar, harmonica, bass and drums.
Originally labeled a blues musician, Gary has always had an appreciation for
all genres of music. His performances are a unique blend of R&B, reggae,
blues, and soul. In addition to being a performer, Gary is a
singer/songwriter. He wrote all of the lyrics and music for his first two CDs.
Gary's first CD release, Worry No More, was voted "2002 Best Texas
Blues Debut CD" by Real Blues Magazine. His second CD, 110, was
released in September 2004 and showcases Gary's versatility. 110 truly
was a labor of love as Gary wrote all of the songs, played all of the
instruments and recorded the album in his apartment studio. His third release,
Tribute features 6 cover songs and two originals. Called "his best
work to date" by KNON radio in Dallas, this CD pays homage to
Albert Collins,
Lightnin' Hopkins and
Albert King
among others. Several songs from 110 and Worry No More will
appear in the as yet unreleased movie Lenexa One Mile. Gary also wrote the
score for the movie. Gary is also pursuing acting and will be seen in an
upcoming John Sayles movie. On March 15, 2006 Gary and his band were
presented with an award for Best Blues Band at the Austin Music Awards. On
March 17, 2004 the Austin Music Awards were announced. Gary was voted Austin's
Best Blues Musician. He also made the list of the top 20 electric guitarists.
The February 2004 issue of Brilliant Magazine listed Gary as one of the Top
100 Singles in Texas. The magazine describes those on the list as "some
of the most gorgeous, interesting and talked-about Texans". May 3, 2001
was declared Gary Clark, Jr. Day in Austin, Texas. Gary was honored by the
mayor of Austin for helping Austin maintain it's claim to fame as the 'live
music capital of the world'. In November 2000 Gary took first place in the
Houston Blues Society Blues Challenge and represented the HBS in the
International Blues Challenge in Memphis, Tennessee. Gary Clark, Jr. is a
truly gifted musician and we expect his name to be of the household variety in
the very near future.
